Frequently Asked Questions

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!

Each of our Seed Pod Kits are tested for germination and expire one year after that date. To give you seeds the best chance to germinate, we recommend storing extra kits in a dark, cool, dry place. This will keep them cool and the seeds dormant until you’re ready to plant them in your AeroGarden. Some people store them in the vegetable drawer of their refrigerator in an airtight container or bag.

Insects like whitefly, aphids, and mites that go after plant tissue all stay in check in an outdoor garden because of natural predators. Thankfully there is a natural balance and plenty of predators in the world. Plants grown in an AeroGarden are susceptible to all the same pests as other indoor houseplants. They can enter your home through open windows, on clothing, or on produce, flowers, or potted plants. If you see fine white threads on or between leaves, tiny black or green specks on stems or the underside of leaves, or a sticky substance on the surface of the leaves or grow deck, your plants may have picked up some hitchhikers.

After each planting, we recommend cleaning and sanitizing your AeroGarden for the best results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mine are not mini cherry tomatoes I bought this kit in 2020, and the first time I tried to grow two tomato plants, they developed mold and needed to be tossed. My second attempt over 100 days ago, produced non-dwarf plants that have weird pumpkin shaped medium size tomatoes. I didn’t prune properly at first as they just shot up to the top of the light, then went over the light. One is finally starting to turn red, otherwise they have all been green. I picked two and cut them open, only to find they were all distorted inside and underneath. Seems I received some sort of weird heirloom instead of the dwarf mini tomato plant, which shouldn’t be grown in an Aerogarden.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holy tomato! I'm in an apartment without full sun on my balcony for growing things, so I needed an alternative. I bought an Aerogarden and a Mighty Mini kit with the mindset that this would be a "hope for the best" kind of experiment. Boy, did it ever exceed my expectations. Next time I plant my unit, I'll probably only use 4 or 5 pods rather than all 9. I am going to have so many tomatoes I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all of them. These are beautiful, dense little plants that produce fruit like I can't even believe. I've been posting pics on Facebook and everyone is amazed. Hopefully some of my family and friends buy into the Aerogarden units too, it sure seems to be worth it so far.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Adorable, but not as flavorful I love the look of these cute and hardy mighty mini tomatoes. Mine topped out at about 5" and gave plenty of mini tomatoes, but I found that their flavor was a little bitter. I've also grown heirloom cherries and golden cherries, so I guess I got spoiled by the sweet taste that those two offered. I also found that the plant's lifetime isn't as long as their slightly larger counterparts. The mighty minis lasted about 3-4 months before the leaves withered and the plants died off. Overall, adorable little plants and great conversation starters, but I wouldn't plan on making salsa with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just keeps producing! I have three Aerogardens that I have used for years. I have grown tomatoes before and have never been disappointed. However, this latest crop has been outstanding enough to prompt me to go online and write a review. I did things differently this time. This is the first time I have used the bee to pollinate the tomato blossoms. This time I kept the brown leaves pulled so I could see the tomato blossoms right away. I immediately pollinated them with the bee. These plants are thriving and keep producing. They have been planted for 245 days. The plants have produced so many tomatoes that I have had to freeze most of them. I have many freezer bags full of ripe tomatoes waiting to be cooked in my freezer. Right now I have ten ripened tomatoes available. I am also finding new tomato blossoms nearly every day. Right now I have six of them. Exceptional product! Thank you Aerogarden!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this kit Virtually nothing about this purchase went well. The package arrived totally mangled by the postal service. Part of that was the postal service's handling, but the package's contents were not well-padded by AeroGarden. Eventually, the pods all produced plants, but it took longer than expected/described. The plants grew slowly and took longer than expected to produce flowers and then fruit. However, the reason for the negative review is that the tomatoes themselves are tough, tasteless to bitter. Apparently, these seem to be ornamental rather than food" tomatoes. If you're looking for tomatoes to eat, avoid these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Impressed! This is about the tenth seed pod kit that I've grown, but it's the first tomato plant that I've had. I am so surprised that I've grown so many tomatoes so far. I had pepper plants in a previous Aerogarden, but they did not yield nearly as much fruit as these plants have. I'm using the six pod Aerogarden Harvest (I think it's the first generation with the LED lights) and I am so impressed with this seed kit. I started the seeds in January and I have a nice little harvest now in May. My only complaint is about the machine and not the seed kit. You can't remove the plant through the tiny little holes for the pods because the roots get tangled while they're growing in the machine. So they're essentially stuck in the Aerogarden and I can't transplant them into the ground. ATTN AEROGARDEN: Please make the top part of the water basin able to detach into sections so that we can take the plants out without damaging their roots. Otherwise, this is a great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Little Plant Very easy to grow and harvest! Keep up with feedings, prune plants (makes them more healthy). I keep my plants trimmed two inches away from grow lights. Put a fan on them or shake them for pollination. If you don’t have good success with these plants you did not do one of the above. If a plant does not germinate you just call AeroGarden and they will send them to you at no charge.

Questions

Will this plant get too tall for my harvest elite 6 pod

Asked by: Lmpalucki
When planting tomatoes in the Harvest Elite Garden, we suggest only planting 2 plants in your garden at a time. Growing fewer pods gives each individual plant more space to grow which will improve the harvest. Once the plants are grown, should I transplant to a flower pot with dirt? If so do I leave the plastic cone attached to the roots?

Asked by: Travelqueen
If you choose to transplant your flower into a container with soil, remove the plastic growing basket from your pod. Your vegetable plants, such as tomatoes or peppers, will start to flower and set fruit after they reach a level of maturity. The average lifespan for fruiting vegetables is about 9 months. With continued tending and care, fruiting vegetables you can certainly maintain plant growth for longer.

How long does it take for tomatoes to turn red?

Asked by: Motivated Mama
In your Aerogarden, it takes an average of 45 days for tomatoes to blossom, and then another week or two for those blossoms to turn into fruit if you are diligent about pollinating! Once the tomato is full size, it takes about 20-30 days for the full-size green tomato to turn red.

Can the Mighty Mini Cherry tomatoes be grown in the Harvest Elite Slim

Asked by: Garden compatibililty
Yes, the Mighty Mini Cherry tomatoes can be grown in the Harvest Elite Slim. We suggest only using 2 tomatoes at a time in this garden. Tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants require lots of space, water, and plant food. If too many are planted, the amount of fruit to harvest may be lower. Overcrowded plants will have a harder time producing fruit.
