Frequently Asked Questions

AeroGardens are designed to help you grow your own herbs, vegetables, salad greens or flowers at home. Our Seed Pod Kits are compatible with every model of AeroGarden. Planting with Seed Pods is fun and easy! Just insert the pre-seeded pods in your garden, add water, and the patented, specially formulated Liquid Nutrients. Most plants germinate within 7-14 days, are ready for harvesting in 4-6 weeks, and will keep producing continuous harvests for up to 6 months and longer. Indoor gardening can’t get any tastier or simpler!
Each of our Seed Pod Kits are tested for germination and expire one year after that date. To give you seeds the best chance to germinate, we recommend storing extra kits in a dark, cool, dry place. This will keep them cool and the seeds dormant until you’re ready to plant them in your AeroGarden. Some people store them in the vegetable drawer of their refrigerator in an airtight container or bag.
Fruiting vegetables, like tomatoes, peppers, and Fairy Tale eggplants, do require a little more attention and care than herbs, flowers, and salads.
The trellis is an accessory that helps support medium and tall plants, such as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. Help your plants grow taller by supporting them before they develop heavy fruit. We have trellis systems available for Bounty and Farm models. For smaller gardens, like the Sprout and Harvest, try bamboo sticks, chopsticks or our Soft Ties to support your plants. Stick them down inside the grow pods next to the stem. Plants will grow up leaning into them or you can tie gently to the support. Early support can keep plants from collapsing under the weight of the fruit (tragic if it happens just before harvest).
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and grow Gardening when it comes to using these aerogarden seed pod kits is so easy. This is our first time using the cherry tomato pods, and so far, they are on point with growth. All I have to do basically is drop them into their slots in my aerogarden and set the perfect details for growth up on my screen. I'm excited to eat these when they finish growing. I love the ease of use of these in my aerogarden. It has the light needed, tells me when I need to add water and/or plant food. It takes all the fuss out of growing food at home. That means there's o excuse NOT to grow some of your own food. Even people who are rarely home can grow these tomatoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Countertop Wonder These tomatoes are wonderful to eat as well as a joy to grow. I’ve benefitted from reading the details outlined in the guides. This year I’ll be concentrating on healthier and fuller looking plants. I’ve learned pruning is my plants best friend. So instead of the long, leggy branches I hope to see robust plants. Last year my tomato gardens still produced a bumper crop harvest of absolutely delicious fruit from the vine. I love the “search-and-find” hunt of my red treasures hiding among the bushy green leaves. ENJOYABLE GARDENING!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks promising! This is my two week review of the Heirloom Cherry Tomato Seed Pod Kit. I don't have any tomatoes yet but these plants are definitely sprouting up! They haven't required too much water as I haven't had a notification to fill the garden yet. I just love how easy these are to you use, you just fill the garden with water add two caps of plant food, set the garden to vegetable, drop the pods in and cover them with the little plastic cover. All of these things are included in the kit. Then you have to do absolutely nothing until the garden alerts you to. I mean this a no fail way to grow cherry tomatoes even if you don't have a green thumb. I can't wait to see my first little tomato!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Many Many Tomatoes I have been growing the tomatoes for over 180 days... They keep producing like crazy...However, I grow them for my wife since I am not a huge fan of tomatoes. Her complaint is that regardless of how firm the tomatoes are when picked, the meat inside is very soft (or soggy) compared to the tomatoes we grow outdoors. I contacted support and they told me I may be picking them too late and I should try picking them earlier. I have experimented and the results are the same. The only thing I can think of is that because they are ALWAYS in water, that that is why they are soft in the middle. I think I might try strawberries next...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first AeroGarden experience I ordered this Red Heirloom Tomato Seed Pod Kit with my new Aero Garden. I set the garden up as soon as I received it in May. Seeds germinated within 5 days. Of the 6 pods, only 4 germinated. No problem for me. I experimented with a musk melon seed I had saved from a locally farmed, delicious melon. And a packaged zucchini seed. Both germinated and are now living outdoors with the 4, very healthy tomato plants. I know the seeds are guaranteed to germinate. I have no complaint. I am a Happy Aero Garden owner and looking forward to year round use :-) Have little toamtoes one plant, buds on one, just healthy growth on the other 2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Heirloom Cherry tomatoes are exploding! I am on day 58 of my initial planting, and I am absolutely amazed there are about 30 tomatoes growing between two plants. AeroGarden advised that no more than two tomato plants be grown at the same time. I'm glad I took their advice. These two very healthy plants drink up so much water, I need to refill the reservoir every day and a half. I just ordered the AeroVoir Watering System to make sure my plants don't run out of water. I can't wait for the tomatoes to ripen. I am so pleased with both my AeroGarden and my Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Red Heirloom Cherry Tomato I just thought I would let you know that I purchased and grew these tomatoes last fall in my AeroGarden and they grew fast and in abundant, the plant got so big that I had to plant it in an outdoor pot and wintered them over in the garage where they had tomatoes all winter long and are still producing . I just finished a crop of lettuce and now starting kale mix. Everything I have planted in it grows great, love it and use it all the time. Thank you for making something so much fun and easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tomatoes I have been reading. About people saying that they have yellow flowers but no tomatoes. I have had an abundance growing and ripening for the last five months. I think the secret is first, pruning early on as instructed and then POLLINATING! I use an old electric toothbrush. When the flowers are open, I touch the side of the vibrating toothbrush head to the branch. The pollen looks like fine dust. In a couple of days, the flowers seem to close and die but in another few days, you see the beginnings of a tomato.

My red heirloom cherry tomato plants are heavy with tomatoes!! They are all still green in color. How much longer will it take for them to ripen so I can harvest them>

Asked by: marciawn
Tomatoes are a summertime crop; the fruit needs warmth to ripen. You should see yellow flowers on your tomato plants at 5-7 weeks. Unpollinated flowers simply fall off the plants without setting fruit, and failure to pollinate is one of the greatest causes of disappointment in growing tomato and pepper plants. Many plants, including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and melons require pollination in order to produce fruit. When growing outdoors, this critical step is performed by wind, animals, bees and other insects. When growing indoors, we need to “be the bee” and perform this task ourselves if we want to enjoy those vine-ripened tomatoes in the middle of winter. You will need to pollinate regularly once they begin to flower, at least every other day, and only when the lights are on.

do these plants need to be replanted at they get bigger?

Asked by: Dennis
Fruiting vegetable plants, such as tomatoes or peppers, will start to flower and set fruit after they reach a level of maturity. The average lifespan for fruiting vegetables in your AeroGarden is about 9 months. With continued tending and care, you can certainly maintain plant growth for longer in your garden. If you choose, you can remove the plastic grow basket and transplant them into soil.

How to pollinate the cherry tomatoes

Asked by: Faheem
Once they begin to flower, pollinate your plants regularly. You can use our Be the Bee tool to shake pollen in each blossom loose, or gently shake the branches of your plants regularly to loosen the pollen in each flower. You can also point a small fan at your garden to simulate a breeze that will shake the pollen loose. You should start to see fruit in about 6-8 weeks.
