I purchased my first Ultra in March 2017 from Costco. I received both the Gourmet Herbs kit and the Heirloom Cherry Tomato kit. The Herb kit grew great all summer and fall, and produced copious herbs. The dill was my favorite, although the mint and basal are close behind. I finally terminated the herbs in early October, and planted the Cherry Tomatoes. It took more than the 14 days to germinate, and next time I'll place my heat pad under the unit to increase the temperature since my room temperature was close to 65 degrees most of the day and down to 62 degrees during the night. I estimate that each tomato plant is producing at least 50 tomatoes. I placed the heat pad under the unit to increase ripening, which it did. I also used the electric toothbrush method of pollination, which worked great! We're enjoying the tomatoes every couple of day. I was so impressed that I purchased an Ultra for my son, and just purchased a second unit for myself and got the Heirloom Salad Greens kit. It germinated in just three days! So possibly we'll have fresh lettuce with our tomatoes. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my Ultra gardens! (Posted over a month ago)

I bought 4 of these between Dec '14 and Feb '15, and 3 of the LED light panels had already burned out before their 3-year anniversaries. With no way to buy replacement light hoods, these were really not good investments. They're a good way to learn hydroponics, but I won't buy more to continue my indoor growing because they're built to become obsolete and I want something sustainable for the long term. These are not on the site as with replacement parts we always want to make sure the right part is sent for the right model of garden. I've had my AG Ultra LED for about two or so years and I have loved it. It's the best way to have fresh herbs year round. However recently the LED light hood started flickering. I have not heard back from them on this issue yet (waiting about a month+ now). I've also emailed support and am waiting for a response on another issue I'm having with the LCD screen (it's cracked). I have an aerogarden ultra that I've had for 2 or 3 years. I've really enjoyed it but the front panel can no longer be seen because the light has faded. I just got off the phone with customer service (after holding for 25 minutes) and was told this is a known issue and nothing can be done. If Aerogarden wanted to do something about it they could but they've decided not to. This was an expensive garden and I'm not a very happy customer. I have 4 other gardens that don't have the lit front panel. They were all less expensive and turns out a much better choice. (Posted over a month ago)

Absolutely amazing, I had lettuce sprouts two days after starting my first Aerogarden Ultra. All my lettuce pods sprouted within the first four days. The tomato pods took eight days to sprout. A week after planting, my salad plants are two inches tall and growing. Every morning I look to see how much growth has happened.
I am going to wait a few more days to taste the fruits of my garden. Will have to wait a bit longer for tomatoes but that is OK. (Posted over a month ago)

For the most part, I really like the product. It works great. Easy to install and setup and low maintenance.

I’ve grown cherry tomatoes, jalapenos, lettuces, basils, and cucumbers without problem from my own seeds.

The seed kits that come with the product, I have mixed results.

I started off using the Miracle Grow nutrient but I’ve switch to the Masterblend mix and I am having good results.

My main problem with the product is the LED hood is hard to remove. Once my plants has grown to the max height of the LED arm, it’s hard to maintain the product. The LED hood make it hard to remove the water reservoir for clean-up. I wish you can rotate the led hood for easy access to the water reservoir.

I bought the ultra instead of the extra for a strawberry bowl. I have since learned that the extra does have a pump setting for strawberries which is even easier to use than the ultra, so if i had it to do over, i would have bought the extra instead, but I still love both of them. I thought people might like to know that both the extra and the ultra can do a strawberry bowl. some of the info on this website and amazon must be outdated information. (Posted over a month ago)

This product works well and is very easy to use. It is easy to grow things and they taste great. However, don't make the mistake of thinking this will produce any meaningful amount of vegetables. It might produce a worthwhile amount of herbs (going to try that this summer when I can grow an actual garden outside). I bought this thinking that I could supplement our grocery purchases, but it really only produces enough for an occasional treat. It is a nice novelty, but you couldn't grow enough vegetables for a single person, let alone a family. The product itself is excellent, but just didn't meet my expectations. (Posted over a month ago)

I purchased 2 ultra led gardens for Christmas presents.One for my wife and one for my parents.My wife and I plugged ours in and it didn't work.We called customer service and they shipped us a new base out within 5 days no questions and no charge.My parents had a pod that didn't grow,and same deal they called and had a new pod shipped to them.We planted tomatoes and peppers and they are doing great. This garden was given to me as a gift, since my friend knew that I loved my standard 7 fluorescent so much. I am also a big fan of LED technology, and so this garden was the perfect combination of form, function and beautiful aesthetic for me.

I like it's polished silver finish, like the Elite 6 Garden, but nicer... because this one was the real pump (not the aerator) it is quiet and the white noise that comes from it is non-intrusive.

The plants grow very well under the LED hood. My other house plants creep towards the hood and sometimes grow underneath it as well. Actually, when I moved recently and couldn't take all of my potted plants with me, I transported cuttings and then re-grew them under the hood. All plants love the spectrum of light that the garden puts out.... very good for regrowing clippings and succulents.

I had a minor glitch with the garden, but customer service replaced the hood free of charge, and since then it's been running smoothly. Thanks! (Posted over a month ago)

Easy grow tomatoes. The Miracle Gro AeroGarden Ultra Led,helps you through your garden growth. The display tells you when to add water and nutrients. the led lights will go off when needed and come back on automatically. If your power goes out it displays to check your clock and lets you change the clock back to real time. You have to watch your garden and tend to its needs. Sometimes you may need to lift the top part of the garden where the plants grow and check roots so they don't get into your small pump inside the main water compartment. Simply Lift The plant growth top and place it somewhere so the roots hang down and trim them enough but not to much (to keep them from growing into your small pump inside the water compartment) The booklet and this website has the information you need and parts if you need them. I grew the smaller tomatoes and herbs. They grew real fast and healthy. I will try peppers and larger tomatoes now. The small tomatoes are delicious! (Posted over a month ago)

I bought one Ultra LED and liked it so much I bought another one. We grew more herbs and lettuce than we could eat (2 people). We bought another one and are starting to get tomatoes. We bought a fourth one so we can rotate crops. A couple of months ago I bought the 36 cell seed starter (Aerogarden 6) to start seeds for my outdoor EarthBoxes. Oh my gosh--what a great idea. All the tomato, pepper, cucumber, lettuce, and kohlrabi seeds came up and are now thriving in the EarthBoxes after being transplanted. The only seeds that didn't come up were spinach, sorrel, and savory, but maybe I didn't wait long enough (or bad seeds). Carefully cleaning the Aerogardens between plantings is really important. Follow directions and you can't go wrong with this system.

This was a gift for Christmas. After planting everyhting, we had sprouts in almost every plant in about a week. SOme took a bit longer. The chives are the only one that has not been very plentiful. The Dill is a monster. I would have preferred to have thyme than dill, and it would have been easier on the Garden. Dill gets big fast, and gets thicker as it ages. Looks like bamboo after awhile.
Looking forward to having many more years of indoor herbs when its either too hot or too cold to have them outside.
Very easy to maintain, low maintenance. The biggest thing is figuring out what to cook with the herbs that are growing so fast. (Posted over a month ago)

I have the Ultra LED and have been very happy with it so far. I planted the original herb seed kit and aside from missing the Genovese Basil (I got two Thai Basil in my box) they took off great. I actually wound up transplanting them to a indoor window box so I could use the Aerogarden to start seeds indoors. They perked back up after about a week post transplant (I had to butcher their roots to get them out of the seed pod holder). Great overall, the only design flaw I see is that the lowest clip for the height extension gets in the way of easily lifting out the water bowl. (Posted over a month ago)

I have had my ULTRA LED AeroGarden for 6 months and have enjoyed it. HOWEVER I am now getting an alert message that the "grow lights need to be replaced." The ULTRA LED has an LED hood--no grow lights--what's up with this? Also the literature indicates that the LED lights would last 3 to 5 years and I've only had the AeroGarden 6 months. In addition, I am unable to find any information on your site for ordering or replacing the LED light hood. :-( (Posted over a month ago)

The LED lights will last for 3 – 5 years. If you are getting a message that they need to be replaced, it is likely due to an incorrect light type setting. To change the setting to LED lights:
Press ‘HOME’ 2 times
Choose ‘Set Lights’
Choose ‘Select Light Type’
Choose ‘ Change Light Type’
The message at the top of the next screen will show ‘White Fluorescent’
Choose ‘Change Light Type’
The message at the top of the next screen will now show ‘LED Panel’
Press HOME to go back to dashboard
Your lights are now set correctly and you should not receive the ‘Replace Lights’ message.

This is the first time I have tried growing plants this way. I see no reviews on seed starting so I am saying it works great for that. Actually I started two sets of seeds one with this unit and the other with a regular heated mat with grow lights on a string that can move up and down. the method that is way above the other is the aerogarden all vegetables are up and not long legged like the other system is. so I will now have to order another unit. at first I was concerned since no soil is used and you can not actually cover the seed nor regulate the depth but they all came up (72) and doing really well. This is an update from my first review. My AG Ultra LED is really working well, my 3 Mighty Mini Cherry Tomato plants are doing well, they are still short but look very healthy. Also the Cilantro, and Dill are doing very well, the Genovese Basil and Mint are still puny but look healthy and I'm sure they will thrive and grow well. I also have an AG6 Space Saver with 6 strawberry crowns growing like weeds and I just pollinated them a couple times today. I have 2 AG Space Saver 6, an AG Ultra Led, and an AG 7LED and I love them all!! I cannot wait to start harvesting my herbs and tomatoes!!! I received my aerogarden ultra LED and had it setup in less than 15 minutes. I watched videos prior to getting my aerogarden which assisted me in the setup process. I received the gourmet herb package with my aerogarden. Within 6 days all but the Cilantro has sprouted. I am now on day 18 and all my plants have sprouted. The basil, dill and chives are growing very quickly and are almost to the level of the lights. I will have to start my pruning sooner than I thought. (Posted over a month ago)

My brand new Ultra LED arrived today and I already have it 'planted' with 3 mini tomato seed pods (AeroGarden product from Wal*Mart) and the basil, mint, dill, and cilantro pods that came with the unit. I have an AeroGarden 6 Space Saver that I bought from eBay and since the seed pods that came with it were too old and didn't germinate, I planted it today with some Evie's Ever Bearing Strawberry plants that I bought from Amazon. I am in high hopes that my 2 AeroGardens will produce bountiful crops. I also bought some 'cat grass' and catnip seeds from Amazon so my cat Swiffer can enjoy the bounty of the harvest from my 2 AeroGardens!!!

I am growing three yellow cherry tomatoes in this aerogarden. The plants came up quickly and have many little tomatoes on them. The tomato plants grew faster than the cherry tomatoes I grew in the non-LED aerogardens. Th computer chip system seems to work well. It informed me of some interesting things. We have a generator for when electricity fails. The aerogarden is on one of the few circuits that is not connected to the generator. Thus it was through the aerogarden that we were notified that we had lost power for a few hours. Both times it noted the power interruption and asked my to tell why it had happened. This prevented the dark light cycle from being thrown off. Most of its little tips and notifications that come up are things that I already knew, but a couple of the tips prevented calls to aerogarden tech support. (Posted over a month ago)

I've ordered this unit from US and using it happily. This ultra Led really delivers. The previous problem with the clock had been fixed as stated by the comments in the review. Its quiet, more compact that the normal 7 pod aerogarden.

One concern is that I do not see any screws on the underside of the grow deck. There might be issues where the water channel is block and there is no way to clear the blockage except using vinegar to rinse it. (Posted over a month ago)

I have always wanted an Aerogarden and never purchased one because I learned that you have to replace the bulbs. With this LED Aerogarden I'm happy to see that they last a lot longer than the traditional units. I love the easy set up and it's nice to have the reminders for when to add nutrients and when to add water. I waited about a month for this to come off of backorder and I'm assuming all the issues with the clock are fixed. I haven't had any issues that I know of. I am so impressed with the amount of herbs that are produced and I'm excited to try another kit. Now that my plants are bigger I'm refilling the water more, but that's expected. Well, they've come up with a fix for the time increase problem. It involves a light hood replacement. When I read about this, I couldn't see how replacing the light hood would fix a clock problem, but IT WORKED! I've had the new hood for at least 2 weeks now, and haven't had the clock gain even a minute. The only time I've had to reset the clock was after a couple of power outages. I live in the Houston area, and we got hit with some pretty bad storms recently. During that time, I lost power twice, and had to reset the clock, but those are the only times I've had to reset the clock. Before the fix, I had to reset at least twice a day. Good job Aerogarden! Now I can revise my rating to its deserved 5 stars. (Posted over a month ago)

I love this new Aerogarden and the tips it provides periodically.
It looked like the clock was jumping a few minutes, then I didn't check it for awhile. Today I checked the time compared to my clock and it was more then 1/2 hr ahead!
When I had followed up on my order, I was told at that time that it was only happening to a small percentage of people, I guess I'm in that percentage.
Is this an issue or not? How will it eventually impact the plants. When I have time Mon - Fri 8 am - 5 pm I'll call support, until then I'm not overally concerned?? (Posted over a month ago)

I was emailing John Thompson about some other problems, and also inquired about the clock gain thing... after a while, he emailed me back and told me that he had 2 possible solutions, one that involved replacing both the base and the light hood (which he said would be a total fix), or replacing just the light hood, which, for the most part would mostly fix the problem... he asked me how I would vote, and I told him TOTAL fix (base and hood). However, AeroGarden has come up with a fix that involves a light hood replacement. While I can't see how just the light hood would fix the clock problem, it seems to have. I received this a couple of days ago, and have not seen the clock gain time since! But it's only been a day and a half, so we'll see what happens.... but it's looking good for now...

I started with one, that did so well with herbs, I had to have a second one.

My second ULTRA LED has two cherry tomatoes, a jalapeño and one Thai pepper. Well, that garden grow so fantastic, that I wanted a third to transplant the Thai pepper into, to allow more room for the existing tomatoes and jalapeño. (3rd garden had the Thai pepper and I used the GROW ANYTHING KIT to start two indigo rose tomatoes).

Before the third one arrived, ran a special. Buy two and get one free. This led to two more, plus one for my parents.

So, I have one with herbs, two with tomatoes and peppers and the last two are floral. I used more GROW ANYTHING KITS to do one fully with zinnias and the other with dianthus.

Despite any issues with clock or out of stock issues, aerogarden customer service is top knotch and help with any issue.

I'm 100% satisfied with my five gardens and love having them in my apartment. I'm looking forward to fresh produce during the year.

I bought the Aerogarden ULTRA LED last month on 7 April, even after reading the reviews mentioning the clock gain. This is a wonderful product and the tomatoes are growing rapidly.

I played around with the clock settings, first with the pump time at 2 minutes on and 58 minutes off, then settled with 10 minutes on and 50 minutes off.

The clock does gain time, about 2 minutes every three to four days. But I just reset the time and go on with business. It isn't a problem for me to do this and I don't mind.

As Ronald mentioned my areo garden is also gaining time. I didn't start using the garden until this past Sunday when I planted my garden seeds. Each day I have had to reset the clock as it has gained 30-40 minutes each day. After only four days my seeds are growing great -some already 3/4" tall. After finding these reviews I have made the suggested changes to the pump times as noted by customer service. I look forward to the fix so my garden will be as it should be and I don't have to worry about the timing of the LED lights. (Posted over a month ago)

This is my first experience with the AeroGarden system and I am absolutely loving it! I have 2 ULTRA LED models and have had none of the clock/time issues that others have mentioned here. The 'set it and forget it' features are what really sold me; since i historically have a bad habit of the 'forget it' part, most of my plants in the past have failed. Not with AeroGarden! I am so pleased to be starting seeds for my vegetable garden; what a great savings over the cost of plants. If the AeroGarden lasts as long as I hope it will, it will more than have paid for itself over time through that cost savings alone. Furthermore, the ability to grow in the winter indoors is especially appealing to us Zone 5 or less dwellers. I'm thrilled with the features, the sleek good looks, and the terrific functionality. Thank you AeroGarden. The only complaint I have is that, the day after I purchased 2 extra Seed Starting Systems, they went on sale and I mine hadn't even shipped yet! I think that I should have been given the sale price due to this, however. My past experience calling Customer Service has been met with what I will call Customer unService … seems they really don't want to be bothered with it. Something is amiss when a customer prefers to lose money over having to be stressed out talking with Customer Service. I'm growing strawberries with the Ultra LED plus grow bowl. I planted immediately after arrival.

Pro: Everything sets up easily. Despite a short delay in shipping due to weather, nearly all of the strawberries have produced new growth in less than a week since planting.

Con: The handle clamp (that holds the LED light) makes putting the strawberry basket on slightly more difficult than it should be. If the clamp were higher on the handle, then the design would be more convenient.

Despite this negative, the basket has fit onto the pump easily each time I've placed it. The current design works. It's just not perfect. This is difficult to explain in writing.

Note: My review applies to the Ultra plus basket.

I have another machine, though it's not an ultra, growing plants normally (no basket). And it works perfectly. AeroGardens in general are well-designed and easy to use. (Posted over a month ago)

I don't see any way of editing my review, so I'm adding this comment. Since I'm still in germination mode, the pump only runs once every 12 hour. Well, it just kicked on, and in the short time it has been running, I've watched the time increase by 5 minutes. I don't know how much time it will gain before the pump turns off again, but once it turns off again, I'm betting that the time increase will stop until the pump turns back on in 12 hours. There is definitely a correlation between the pump being on, and the time increase. This is likely why I'm not seeing as dramatic of a time increase as other users are... mine is still in germination mode, so the pump does not run as often, or for as long. This is also why the work around that customer service has posted here helps a little - keeps the pump from running as much, therefore keeping the time increase down. As I write this, the pump is still running. I think in germination mode, it runs for 1 hour out of 12 hours. Hate to see how much time it will gain after the hour is over. I have had the Ultra LED for a couple of months and really love it. Herbs growing well. As others with this unit, the problem is the clock gains time. You don't notice this at first as the clock gain is related to the pump cycle. So for the first month during the germination phase, when the pump cycle is brief, the time gain is hardly noticeable. However, month 2 during the high growth phase the pump is on much of the time causing the clock to gain time at a rapid rate. After about a week into the high growth phase my clock was an hour ahead and I only realized this when the lights went off an hour early and I noticed the clock had gained an hour. The company is very responsive but continues to say the engineers are working on the problem and it is unclear how many units actually have this problem and how long it will be until a resolution will be found. For now the recommended "fit" is to set the pump cycle to 2 mins. on, 58 off. This slows the amt of time gained each day but is not a true fix, it just minimizes the problem. Still I have to reset the clock each week. They have determined the problem is linked to the pump so the less time the pump is on the less time the clock gains, however, it still gains time - just not as fast. My name is on the list with others who have this problem. We remain on hold until there is a mechanical "real" fix and then it is unclear whether we will get a new part or a replacement Aerograden. So if your unit seems OK at first watch the clock to see if it is gaining time and report it so it can be determined how extensive the problem is which may help the company determine how to proceed with those of us with defective units. I bought this version, primarily for energy-saving LED's and the easy electronic controls and set-up. My heirloom tomatoes are off to a great start in just two weeks.

HOWEVER, as mentioned in several of the other reviews, the clock is not functioning correctly. During the first few days, it was gaining a few minutes a day. On the 15th day, it speeded up a LOT. I set the clock before I left home in the morning so I knew it was correct. When I got home at 8pm, I noticed the lights were off on my Aerogrow even though they should have been on. When I checked the clock on the Aerogrow, it showed 1:15am--it had gained 5 extra hours in less than a day! I have reset it twice tonight, and it continues to gain time even more quickly. The clock has become so flakey that the lights/watering/reminders are no longer working in any meaningful way. I'm worried that the great start I got on my tomatoes will be lost, since the lights keep going off as the Aerogrow clock keeps speeding up.

I will contact Aerogrow tomorrow to see if they can help fix this clock problem. I hope they can. If not, I will have to return it, and likely lose my tomatoes. :-( (Posted over a month ago)

When I visited my son-in-law last year, he had several different sizes of AeroGardens placed around the house. I was intrigued when his new Ultra LED came. My Christmas present was my very own AeroGaeden! Awesome!! I immediately put it together and placed it on a table in my den. The digital features were easy to use. You can't really mess up because you can always go back and correct it. I wrote down the date I planted two Mega Cherry Tomato pods. The "Add Water" message came on so I added water. I first noticed the lights coming on at odd times, not what I had recorded. Then I noticed the time was incorrect. Maybe I had programmed the wrong time, so I reset it. Within a couple days, again, the clock was wrong. I reset it. Two days before I was to add nutrients I noticed the display was incorrect and also clock. I didn't know what to do so I called the help line. The lady was very nice and explained there had been some problems with some of the new LED AeroGardens and that they and engineers were trying to pinpoint the problem. She told me how to reset it and when to add the nutrients. She said to keep the garden until the problem had been resolved, then I would receive a new version. In the conversation she mentioned several things the engineers were testing. One was maybe electrical interference from various appliances. My garden was plugged in the an outlet that below the house intercom. When the radio was turned on there was lots of static. So maybe the reverse was true. I moved my garden to another location at the end of the house in the sewing room. It has been 3 days and I have not set the clock, the lights come on at the appropriate time and the digital readout hasn't changed. I love my garden with my two tomato plants growing to about 2" in 2 weeks. The LED lights are bright and they use less electricity. The design is modern and sleek looking. Not disappointed. LOVE IT! I purchased this model about a month ago and I'm amazed at how fast the herbs are growing. The LED's provide extra bright light while using far less electricity than regular light bulbs. Set up of this model is a breeze, and the digital features make start up and harvesting as simple as could be. The clock however seems to run a little fast. I was given the Ultra LED as a gift 2 weeks ago and I think I would love it, however, every day it gains 25 minutes all of a sudden and so every day I have to reset the clock. This makes me wonder if other aspects of the programming might be off as well. I think it has marvelous potential, but I am a little off put by this problem. I bought 2 after i sold my other aerogarden ultras and 7s, i mostly wanted to not have to replace grow bulbs every 6 months, and the cheaper electricity cost was nice. Also they seem to be doing their job, I planted lots of slow growing herbs and herbal tea kit and in a week things are looking great, and I am shocked how fast they are growing. The LEDs are very bright so be prepared for that, also they fixed all of the Digital features on this new version that was glitched on the previous older Ultra. I bought this version after owning one of the older 7 pod systems. I am very, very happy with my new purchase. The digital features make planting and harvesting so simple. The whole system has been re-designed and there's not a feature I don't like. The LEDs are super bright and I look forward to not having to purchase new grow lights every few months. The brushed aluminum and black color scheme are very classy. This is by far the best AeroGarden available! (Posted over a month ago)
