Basil started quick. Four plants, two are faster than the other two.
Parsley looked like there might have been a white fuzz growing so i got rid of it before it spread. Was going to check the website to see how dill might be pruned as there's three plants that have taken off since sprouting those first two seedling leaves. But i quote the reference page "9.) Basil, mint and dill are fast growing plants and require more pruning than thyme, oregano, parsley and dill which are slower growing." It says dill is fast growing and slow. I never got any pruning advice from there either.

the basil did very well dill got a little bit out of it but the parsley did not do well at all took a long time to even sprout and got 3 leaves of parsley (Posted over a month ago)
Customer Service Response:
Thanks for taking the time to post a review. The parsley is often a bit slow to sprout and grow, and it is important to keep the grow lights at the lowest position until it is well established. This means that the tall, fast growing basil and dill (or other faster growing herbs) should be trimmed from the top to keep them an inch or two below the grow lights until the parsley is growing well. Hope that helps, and remember that you can always call customer service at 1-800-476-9669 for growing tips and suggestions. Thank you!

I purchased my kit 6 months ago. i was so happy to see how quickly the herbs began to grow, my garden included cilantro, basil and parsley. they all did wonderful up until the colder winter months. Cilantro strives but the rest did not. any advise as to what to do during winter months? I am really enjoying this kit however its a lost to not have all of the herbs grown well. I've been able to (very) successfully grow Basil with the 3-pod, but like the Majority of reviewers for this product, the Thyme and Chives do NOT grow well.

The natural answer would be to order the custom kit, but they do NOT offer the 4-ml nutrient packets. When I mentioned this to the customer service rep, he told me I should mix my own nutrient water and hang onto it for 2 weeks, or use half of the 8-ml packet and reserve the other half for 2 weeks. I told him that I live in NYC and don't have the space for that, but he had no other solutions.

I would VERY MUCH appreciate it if Aerogarden better supported the 3-pod by allowing us to customize herb kits, yet STILL get the 4-ml nutrient packets...if this were the case, I'd be buying all the time!! Once this is solved, I'll recommend Aerogrow to everyone I know!!! (Posted over a month ago)
Customer Service Response:
We're in the process of switching nutrient packaging to 3 oz bottles, and before too long the packets will be completely phased out. You'll be able to measure out any quantity of nutrient you want!

We have enjoyed the aerogarden. However, this is the third time we have ordered chives. They do not grow well, and replacing them has been worthless. I would like to see the option to order another herb when one doesn't do well. The Basil and Thyme however, are excellent. Last year at the end of winter, we planted our Basil and thyme still in the pod, into our outdoor garden. They thrived. This then left the aerogarden free to grow lettuce all summer which I prefer to grow indoors to make it pest free. (Posted over a month ago)

It grows fast but only one of the seeds grew. Its taste is not as strong as when grown in soil. (Posted over a month ago)

Don't buy this kit, make up your own selections. The Basil grows like a forest the Thyme hardly grows and the dill is so small it may not survive. It was a mistake buying the kit, I should have picked my own herbs. (Posted over a month ago)

I love all my Aero Garden's.....am into week 3 with a 7 pod variety of greens garden and it's going very well, this time ordered a new 3 pod herb garden and the shears (love) and salad maker (haven't had a chance to try it yet) was very excited to be able to use the herbs to make the salad dressings, but surprised that the chives did not grow, am hoping when I call I will receive another "pod" to get to grow with the rest! Last Christmas the 7 pod gardens were the "special" gifts I gave and were a HUGE hit with everyone! (Posted over a month ago)

Fits great in a small kitchen. Basil grows great, chives are OK, and Thyme is very slow to grow. I think I'll replace the Thyme and Chives with other ones. Overall, great product and low maintenance! (Posted over a month ago)

This is so great..after a few weeks , I am hooked. In two and a half weeks my basil is aboout 2 inches high already. the thyme is about an inch and the chives are trying their best to keep up. I live in a cold weather climate and am dreaming of tomatoes growing in my kitchen this winter....Only problem is I want to fill up the house with aero grows...what a wonderful product. I am so pleased to FINALLY have a green thumb..Thank you. (Posted over a month ago)

I have liked the 3 pod grower but I was only able to get two of the three pods to grow, the third has started but died out very quicly. I have had good luck with the Basil and Thyme and have used them in crock pot cooking and they were great. This is my second time growing with the 3 pod and I can only get two pods to grow. I purchased a 6 pod and hope to get 4 pods to grow based on a 2/3 growth success. (Posted over a month ago)

One of the pods never grew. Another pod is brown. The plant food was separated and a mess. There were numbers on the plant food that were unreadable on not in the directions. I have 2 sets of this but I would not order it again. (Posted over a month ago)

I love this little garden. I just wish they would tell you somewhere in the instructions when you are setting it up that tap water (well water/ water softener) will slow down the growing process to a stand still. It was not until I went online searching did I find out about using distilled water. After I dumped out my tap water and added distilled water, the plants took growing. the Basil is growing fast, the thyme is so so and the chives are 3 little shoots, I would not order chives again. All in all I will be buying another unit, one for growing tomatoes. (Posted over a month ago)

It works out wonderful for my mother who we just moved into a condo from a home with a large yard full of flowers and herbs. It really makes it more like home for her. I love mine also--- I have to many rabbits in my area to have much luck outside. (Posted over a month ago)

Good product. Except that the one chive plant pushed all the rest of the seed out leaving only one plant to grow. (Posted over a month ago)

The variety is great and fun to cook with. Use something from it every day, even if it's a chive to chew on while I cook. Makes my cooking just a little bit more fun than it is already. Have to get more garden, hooked now... (Posted over a month ago)

I love how easy and clean growing these herbs are. I grew them right on my kitchen counter, when I was cooking I literally plucked the herb and used it that instant. I doesn't get any better than that.. (Posted over a month ago)

Works well in small or large kitchens. You have to be patient, but that's expected with any plants. Very limited maintenance; just add nutes and water every two weeks. Even a caveman could do it :) (Posted over a month ago)

I didn't give it a 5 because nothing is ever perfect, but this is close. It TOTALLY exceeded my expectations. I have a 6 pod and two 3 pods. Herbs in the 6 pod, lettuce and spinach in the 3 pods. The seeds that come with are great, but I love the fact you can start your own as well. I used my own lettuce seeds and they sprouted in 3 days! Spinach took a bit longer. I want to get the seed starter tray for next year to help get my outdoor garden started as well. I am snipping things all the time and actually find it produces more than I can keep up with! Haven't tried the tomatoes and the like yet, but I really look forward to experimenting with more seeds! I may have to get more, probably the big one so I can do items that need the trellis and height, and one for the living room, which is in the basement so gets little to no natural light. It would be so fantastic to have some beautiful flowers in the dungeon! And I love the fact that any plants NEAR the garden benefit from the spill over lighting, even in the otherwise dark useless space of a corner in my kitchen that could never maintain a plant before. I plan to buy a small one for my mom as well! :) (Posted over a month ago)

i have the 7-pod and love it so much, i bought the 3-pod for my 80 yo mil. she absolutley loves the taste of basil, which we can only grow in the summer, and no one wants to pay [$] and up for 1 small bunch of basil at the store. this will more than pay for itself in just a few months. Haven't used this particular kit in its entirety just yet... did take one of the pods and place it into our 7-Pod unit while using the newer 3-Pod unit to grows salads and mixed-greens using the Master Gardener's kit... Growing our own from selected/purchased seeds has been our main route since originally obtaining the 7-Pod classic AeroGargen... the units themselves are great to have!! (Posted over a month ago)

Basil grew like crazy! Several plentiful harvests! Thyme did moderately well; chives fizzled out shortly after starting and never matured to harvest size. 3-pod great for small apartment; not as good for one-room studio, unless you set the timer to come on around the time you get up in the a.m. and off near bedtime. Otherwise, you have a very bright night light! (Posted over a month ago)

We love our AeroGarden, which has increased our interest in cooking at home. We love italian cooking and having fresh basil all the time is amazing. We also enjoy tomato, basil, and mozzarella which is so much nicer with fresh basil. Growing different herbs has encouraged us to try new recipes, which is always fun. We have a ton of thyme, time to learn something new to cook with thyme. In general it has just been a fun activity and kept things interesting in the kitchen. A highly recommended hobby for anyone who enjoys cooking or gardening. (Posted over a month ago)

The herb 3 pod kit is great for AeroGarden or hydroponic beginners. It grows quickly and requires little maintenance. My kit didn't grow a ton of chives, but the abundance of basil and thyme more than made up for the lack of chives. (Posted over a month ago)

I received a 7-pod Aerogarden as a wedding present and so many people have complimented it and the freshness of my cooking as a result of the herbs. It is such a huge money saver. I gave my mother an Aerogarden as a gift and she loves it more every day. I encouraged her to go online and create her own kits in the future. (Posted over a month ago)

I live in the Midwest and own four large Aerogardens that I use year 'round. I bought this unit for my sister, because she loves fresh herbs too, but has limited space to grow them indoors. Added bonus: her husband finds the process intriguing, and enjoys maintaining the plants/unit and watching them grow. It's worth noting that the basil should be trimmed regularly so the thyme gets adequate light. As for the chives, the amount here is adequate for light use, which is about how most folks use them. Personally, I use them a lot, and keep a large pot under a grow light. I wonder if it's possible to create an Aerogarden with larger grow spaces, which accommodates herbs that grow well in largish clumps, such as parsley or chives? (Posted over a month ago)

I received my first areogarden a year ago Christmas Day. Herbs came with it. My son and daughter-in-law gave it to me for a xmas gift. I still have the basil pod growing after 13 months. My mint died early on. I don't think I got the thyme with the set. I have ordered another set of 6 just in case. My husband says that I make the best roast since I started using the herbs along with garlic and onion. (Posted over a month ago)

I gave this to my mother for a Christmas gift. East to set up and everything included. It sprouted fairly quickly and was very pleased with the results. The basil gets large quick! At an extraordinary rate! Some say that the chives never sprouted but I guess I was lucky because mine were beautiful and had a strong flavor. The thyme was great. Vibrant green on one side, adeep purple on the other. I am a chef in NYC and I was giving this as a gift for my mother who doesn't always have access to the freshest herbs. I was actually surprised and so were my fellow chefs when the flavor was strong and clean! (Posted over a month ago)

I got the aerogarden 3 as a gift with the gourmet herb seed kit. Its been a blast growing everything! My chives never sprouted, and aerogarden got me a replacement pod, but only 4 teeny chives sprouted from that. The basil and thyme on the other hand went crazy! I had to start harvesting the basil and freezing it to use later, there was just too much! I also took clippings and rooted them in water and the clippings are thriving in pots in my windowsill! Wonderful start to using the aerogarden, online ordering a new seed kit right now! (Posted over a month ago)

ive had my aerogarden for 5 mths now and use it to grow fresh herbs. the herbs grew fast, with little maintenance..when otherwise would have been impossible with the winter weather. i clip herbs as needed, usually up to 4 times a week, and they are in ambundance :) i highly recommend this product to anyone who enjoys herbs.. for cooking as well as aromatherapy, as they can be used in conjunction with massage and wellness also. :) kudos!! Although I do love the varieties in the 3-packs versus the 7 packs, I still wish that you could customize the herb kits for the 3 packs. mFor all of the packs, I still find that there is one herb that I probably will not use that much and wish that I could replace it with another.
