I bought organic heirloom seeds early this year. And everything did very well. I had several kinds of tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, and cucumbers. I also had some sunflowers for the bees. I planted extra just in case and was able to share the new plants. As a semi disabled 70+ senior, this kit allows me to produce healthy organic vegetables of my choosing. I plant them directly into my outside Grow Box as weather permits. I will be doing this again next spring, for sure.

I have an older (2008) AeroGardenDeluxe. It had been packed away for a few years but I just got new lights and a pump for it and planted using my old Master Garden Kit with seeds I purchased from the hardware store. I also got a new seed kit w/new sponge types.
In the past I've used the older style Master Gardened kits with much success for both AeroGarden growing and transplanting to indoor pots (even w/old type sponges)

Note to poster "Energizer" I thought my pump was bad and ordered a new one. When the new pump didn't seem to work, I was upset, but my husband suggested rubbing/cleaning the contacts with sandpaper and adjusting the metal contact parts on the the garden to make sure good contact. It worked! Even the old pump works! I also cleaned the old pump with a bit of vinegar, and rinsed throughly. Now I have 2 working pumps.
I love the new type grow sponges (moss) as they are biodegradable & really great for transplanting into soil.

I just ordered another AeroGarden, the new LED version and can't wait to get it! (Posted over a month ago)

I have purchased several seed kits in the past with great luck. Thought I would try this with my own seeds. The instructions were in every language BUT English, so I guessed the number of seeds to put in the basket. I guessed wrong. I have already had to add seeds to 3 of the pods, so my plants are all different sizes. From now on, I 'm buying the regular seed kits. I wasted my money on this. (Posted over a month ago)
Customer Service Response:
Hi, Bette - Sorry your kit wasn't packed with instructions in English. Sounds like a warehouse error, because of course we DO have instructions in English. Whenever things aren't what you expect, please call Customer Service and give us the opportunity to help you!

The caps do not fit or seal over the plastic parts. They won't stay. The kit is too expensive and I have no idea if anything will grow in it or not. I have not been able to use this kit yet as my AeoGarden water pump is broken and they are back ordered. It's only 1.5 yrs old and the pump broke! What's worse is you don't have the part so here I sit waiting....How much longer do we have to wait on the water pump? It looks to us like Aerogarden is having cash flow problems that they seem to always be out of stock of key parts. I'm a very disatisfied Aeorgardener at the moment (Posted over a month ago)
Review by Deb the Cilantro Lover
We purchased this to add Cilantro to our original kit (how can you not have Cilantro??). We used seeds that had been bought about three years ago, and they still sprouted in about a week. We were amazed. The cilantro now looks lovely next to our other AeroGarden herbs, and you would not even have known they were not from the original set. One issue is that the pieces are a little difficult to put together, but once they go in to the AeroGarden, it isn't a problem anymore. (Posted over a month ago)

I haven't tried it yet. It arrived too late for starting plants in the spring. But I think it is going to work great for starting those plants that need a longer growing season than we have here! The Master Gardener Kit is A MUST for all AeroGardeners! I LOVE this kit, as I really enjoy experimenting with growing things, especially in my taller AeroGardens! I have had incredible success growing tomatoes from my own seeds using the Master Gardener kit! Don't get me wrong, as I really love the seed kits from Aerogarden, but I, personally, really enjoy being a part of the WHOLE process, beginning with planting the seed, myself! The Master Gardener kit allows you to do this, for a VERY REWARDING experience! (Posted over a month ago)

I have tried to start Tomato seeds using various methods. The point between starts and transplants always killed my plants. Taking the seeds from start to small plant is a far surer way to create the results I want, and the Aerogarden will do it far faster. (Posted over a month ago)

Some friends gave me a collection of heirloom seeds and I didn't want to wait for spring to plant them. I had my AeroGarden from last winter and I found the Master Gardener set and purchased it. It had everything I needed to plant my own seeds. I should be harvesting tomatoes by Christmas. The plants are growing faster than in my summer garden, and it's been a joy to watch them grow. I recommend this for anyone who already has seeds and you want fresh produce and/or herbs all year round. My mom bought her set, too, and she loves it! She's planted seeds I sent her from my garden. The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't come with spacers for the holes you don't use. Instead of buying something else, I used the plastic covers that were in the kit--they're working just fine. (Posted over a month ago)

As a disabled gardener my entire life, I'm always looking for products to make things a little easier. As an environmentalist, I want to grow as much of my own food as possible. This product is a great help because I can use seeds that I planted in my regular garden to keep food growing throughout the winters months. The 'Master Gardener' kit allows me to do just that. I especially like to keep salad crops (tomatoes, lettuce, cukes, etc.) going. It's easy and I love the fact that I'm growing my own and saving money. (Posted over a month ago)

I have used the Aero Garden for two seasons; this will be my third year. I liked it for herbs; I liked it for salad greens. Now I am using it to grow Golden Purslane seeds. They are a rich sourch of omega three's for vegetarians. It is one of the best hydroponic, small gardener, systems that I have seen. It is attractive, easy to maintain and works really well. My Purslane seeds were planted on Sunday; most were already sprouting on Monday. I am a certified Master Gardener and have worked with plants for years. This is a unit that I will continue to use and add to. I can't discribe it in any more glowing terms than the above. Thanks AeroGarden. (Posted over a month ago)

My husband and I bought his mother an AeroGarden Pro for her birthday a year ago April. She absolutely loves it and has dried herbs from her garden to send to me. For my birthday this past July my husband gave me a AeroGarden Pro100. It is so much fun to incorporate fresh herbs into the many dishes I enjoy cooking. I look forward to trying some of the other grow packs as my herbs are coming to the end of their growing cycle. I highly recommend these wonderfully designed and efficient units. The Master Gardener kit is a great addition to any AeroGarden. A cool and useful gift for any AeroGardener. If you want to do a little more with your AeroGarden, have heirloom seeds or want to do something different, I recommend the Master Gardener kit. I am successfully using Master Gardener kits to grow sweet peppers, catnip, cilantro and dwarf zinnias. Sweet pepper plants started six months ago are still producing abundantly. They have been pruned back repeatedly and fed using the nutrient tablets that come with the kit. Cilantro pods I created using store-bought seed packets and the Master Gardener kit grew beautifully while interplanted along with my AeroGarden herb and basil seed kits (Classic Herbs, International Basil). Catnip pods were a big hit with the kitties. Dwarf zinnias grew so well that I had to transplant them into soil after a month. Indoors, they grow well in pots next to an AeroGarden. In warmer seasons you can transplant flower pods directly from the AeroGarden to soil in pots on a porch or balcony. Some will go straight into the garden. To improve the Master Gardener unit, I recommend adding: 2" square of medium-fine grit sandpaper, or disposable nail file (emery board) Small bottle non-toxic white glue Use a paper or dinner plate as a work surface when you want to create pods using a Master Gardener kit. Using a pen, write the date and name of the plant on the label. To make seeds go where you want them and stay put, apply a couple drops of white glue to the plate's surface, open the sponge and dab the open edges on the glue. Add seeds to the plate, and dab the open surfaces of the sponge onto the seeds. This way, you can control how many seeds go into each pod, and none fall out during handling. Very helpful when handling tiny seeds like basil and cilantro! Using the sandpaper, sand the flat top edges of the pod all the way around just enough to roughen them. Just enough to ensure the label can stick to the glue. An emery board works about as well; sanding takes a few seconds. Place the label face down on the plate, open the glue bottle and apply a thin line of white glue around the edges. Put the sponge holding your seeds into the pod, with the cut edge pointing to the top. Turn the pod upside down and firmly press the roughened edges onto the label. Rotate gently 1/8" to ensure a good seal between the label, glue, and the pod's top edge. Press firmly and let the pod you've just created to rest upside down for 20 minutes on a flat surface. When the glue is dry, plant the pods in the AeroGarden. Why? I found the heat sealing method for label application recommended for the Master Gardener kit to be less than satisfactory. My labels didn't remain secure on the pods when I used heat-and this might have been my error-this is what I did to fix it. I wanted the best seal possible on the label, so decided to try sandpaper and white glue. I was already using glue for labels, and this method worked beautifully. Best, it requires no heat, and no seeds are lost in handling. Labels applied this way have remained secure through six months' growth of flowers, herbs, peppers and tomatoes. I learned how important it was to have a good seal all around the label when two factory seed kit pods planted at the same time began growing at different rates. One was half the size of the other weeks after planting. All other conditions were the same, except for a tiny gap along the edge of one label. Turns out that all AeroGrow pods are designed to deliver air to the roots through the label's central opening. So after I used a toothpick and white glue to close that 1/4" gap on the label's edge for a pod that already had greenery, the plant's growth improved dramatically. Within 3 days, it doubled in size. After two weeks, the plants looked the same, even though I fixed the label 4 weeks after planting. The plant whose label I fixed using white glue and a toothpick ultimately grew larger than the one that had been twice as big. This is how I discovered the importance of a secure seal on the top label. Whether using factory seed kits or the Master Gardener kit, you may need some white glue to secure a label. Doing so will help ensure optimal growth from all your seed pods. Using white glue and sandpaper to achieve an optimal seal for pods created with the Master Gardener kit is an easy, heat-free adaptation. Having a little bit of do it yourself attitude is a help in all kinds of gardening, even AeroGardening, and this is the perfect kit with which to do it. The Master Gardener kit ensures that anyone can use their AeroGarden to the greatest advantage, creatively, flexibly and with seeds of their own choosing. I am successfully growing flowers, herbs, peppers and tomatoes using the Master Gardener kit. I can and do recommend this kit for any AeroGardener who dreams of growing something new and different. I purchased the larger Master Gardener kit because I expected to use it a great deal, but I wanted to add a review about this product in general. This is a good idea. There are so many varieties of flowers and food plants that it's great to be able to use your own seeds. I've also had success using this product to root cuttings. I have two Pro100s. I started the tomato kit in the first one, then rooted cuttings from the most aggressive tomatoes in the Master Gardener pods. The cuttings rooted, and I'm using the fertilizer from the MG kit to feed the tomatoes. I've also started mint cuttings with the MG kit. Refills of the sponges and fertilizer are also available. If you are considering this to start plants to move to your vegetable garden outside, I would recommend the seed starter tray and refills instead. You can start far more seedlings in the same amount of time. (Posted over a month ago)

You can use the master gardener series to grow varieties of herbs and vegetables following the basic guidelines in the instructions. We have one garden with compact heirloom tomatoes started. We saved seeds from the jalapeno peppers in the pepper kit and plan an all-jalapeno garden. We are experimenting with small eggplants and baby summer squash in another garden. Note that it is important to follow the instructions on sealing the labels onto the grow pod- if you don't seal them long enough, your young plants can push them off. (Posted over a month ago)

This product works quite well. However, before you consider purchasing this, please note that it is more cost effective to buy the Master Gardener Deluxe kit. I have this kit because I own a pro 200, this product comes in the box with that unit. If you plan on growing a moderate number of herbs, vegetable plants, or possibly flowers to full maturity inside your aerogarden, while leaving the original regular growing deck surface and only having 7 pod insert areas (openings depending on model of aerogarden and type of plants you desire to grow) this kit is a good option. The master gardener deluxe is still a better choice if you are to buy this item outright, again because of it being more cost effective. Here's a tip. Buy a Seed Starter Tray Kit for your classic aerogardens. Next, use it to start your seeds in your aerogarden just before the natural outdoors season begins for the plants ( herbs, flowers, vegetables, etc.) that you intend to grow. This garden plan is assuming you have enough property for a large outdoor garden. the Seed Starter Tray is the most cost effective Aerogrow product in the long run (if done properly) because it mutliplies the number of plants you are able to germinate by a factor of 10 over using the original 7 pod growing deck surface in your aerogarden. When you prchase a Seed Starter Tray, you go from having 7 seed pod openings to 70 Seed Starting openings, which makes that product more cost efficient than this one, or even the Master Gardener Deluxe Kit!!! Next, you need transplant your young plants, before they become too root bound in the Seed Starter Tray, into sufficient outdoors containers, and environment for each of your plants. You may even even want to try using your own sponge material, (if you have enough of the correct nutrients for the plants) to start seeds in. Use dark colored, antibacterial pieces of sponge as they decrease algae growth in the root system. I find using store bought sponges work properly if made to fit your openings in the grow surface correctly! If you want grow outside, but use a seed strarting/ germinating device to give your plants the ultimate healthy head start, then purchase a Classic Aerogarden and a seed starter tray with extra growing sponge refill packs, and the type of seed kit you intend to grow. If you want to grow your plants to complete maturity, indoors, and solely in you your Aerogarden. Buy THIS type of kit, then use the Pro 200, and/ or possibly the Deluxe model. Their extendable arms mean you can grow larger yields when growing plants to maturity. If you are looking for quality seeds, you can buy Aerogrow's seed kits and separate out the seeds from their original seed pods and divide and disperse them into your own seed pods according to the quantity of plants you want to start off. Aerogrow's seeds have a 100% germination rate, therefor you need to remove all of the seeds from each seed pod and only use one seed in each pod. You can use all of the seeds at once (depending on the type of setup you have at home) or save the extra seeds and continuously replant the same types of plants over and over again. For [$] from Aerogrow, you get quality seeds, with pure genetics, and nutrient tablets, and more general seed pod hardware to start even more gardens with in the future. DO THINGS SMART the SMART WAY and, you can multiply your crop by a factor of 10, with the use of a Seed Starter Tray, and then move your plants outdoors. Also, a Seed Starter Tray causes you to only use a month or two worth of hours on your Aerogarden's bulbs, this is for 70! plants to start off before you remove the plants and transplant them outside. This, frees you up to produce the Absolute MOST plants POSSIBLE, the Quickest, with the least wear and tear on your Aerogarden!!!! Thanks for reading my post, I hope that by you reading it, it helps you to grow a more abundant, healthy garden, in the most cost effective manner, with the quality products offered by the true geniuses at Aerogrow International. Wasn't sure how using my own seeds would work so I only bought the 1 season kit. Worked perfect - have 6 out of 7 sprouting/growing just fine. (7th is the darn Cilantro which doesn't seem to be sprouting but I was warned about this one from other reviews - thought I'd still try it because I like to use that herb in salsas). I wanted to use my own seeds so I could mix/match my herbs per my own needs (2 parsley, 2 chives, 1 basil, 1 oregano, 1 cilantro). I will definitly buy the deluxe kit as it is a more economical choice for year-round gardens. (Posted over a month ago)

I loved the salad bar, baby greens and herb kits, but didn't have any success with cilantro at all and also wanted to see how spinach would do. I bought several seed packages and spent most of an enjoyable afternoon planning and preparing my custom garden. I planted 2 spinach, 2 cilantro, mint, snow peas and mesclun mix. It has been 2 weeks and everything has come up but the spinach. In fact, the cilantro was the first thing to come up, so compared to the ones I tried with the grow kits, there is a huge improvement by using the master gardener kit and quality seed packages. I will probably have to take the pease out because they will get taller than the others, but that's not a problem. Putting the labels on seemed easy enough until it was time to remove the domes. I tested the labels (Because I did read and follow all of the instructions!) and they seemed to be really secure, but each came off when the domes were removed. I simply used glue to secure them again so the startings would rise through the hole instead of under the label as the mesclun had tried to do. In fact, I will probably just skip the ironing step next time and just glue the labels on in the first place. It would seem to me to be a more effective and even safer way to attach them, so I have to wonder why the iron on method is the only option given. If it wasn't for the label issue, I would give the Master Gardener Kit five stars. I can't wait to use the Master Gardener kit on my other Aerogrow garden when it's time! I plan on starting some herbs that will do well in patio containers, and may eventually try my hand at flowers for my patio planter boxes, and leave the two Aerogardens then for greens and more delicate herbs. It's so satisfying to see these come up from seeds, and to know that your food is free of toxic chemicals. (Posted over a month ago)

I ordered the kit because I wanted to start growing something I wanted. I bought strawberry seeds and put them in the pods. it has been a little over a month since I inserted them. I have little sprouts, but they seem to be growing slowly. Have added nutrients, and water when lights flash. I also set it to the Strawberry setting. It works great other than that. Hope my plants get up and grow some more soon. (Posted over a month ago)
