i bought my Aero Garden about 2 weeks before my hip replacement, figuring it would keep me entertained while I was home bound. Have loved watching and checking on growth every couple of days. Basils and dill have been very productive. Mint closing in on 2nd place. Cilantro a bust but have so much outside it's ok. Helped me keep my sanity when I felt good enough to move around a bit and was bored with daytime tv. (Posted over a month ago)

I am so frustrated with these seed-packs. This will be my 3rd set and if this does not work I will go back to ordering seeds from other sources. I can get all kinds of other seeds to grow, just not these. I usually save the seeds from veggies and grow them. I even grew a plant I brought back from Puerto Rico. I don't have a clue what the issue is but willing to give it one more try! (Posted over a month ago)

I'm on my second batch of herbs - they are so much fun to watch as they get bigger. I'm not sure if Aero Garden changed some of the seeds they used but this is my 2nd time growing the Gourmet Herb Kit. This time the mint looks WAAAAAAy fuller and can actually be used for cooking. Also, the oregano took about a week longer than it should of to sprout cause it was just getting too much water and not enough light. I had to take the covering of the pod off for about a week to get it to grow. It's now doing fine. Lastly, there is a LOT of Basil, it would have been nice to get a different herb cause the lemon basil smells like Mr. Clean and I can't cook with it cause it just reminds me too much of cleaning houses. This was by far my most successful garden yet! Everything did pretty well. The basil was the best grower, and one needs to make sure to keep it properly pruned. The other trick is to not harvest too much at one time. I harvested too much of the mint and thyme, and the plants never fully recovered. I'm looking forward to trying the new version of the kit that has a different mix of plants. (Posted over a month ago)

Love the idea and the design. However, some of the plants sprouted much slower than indicated. As a result, I have basil that is almost touching the bulbs, while dill and parsley are not even 1 inch tall. Also, it would be good to know what's in the nutrients packets. (Posted over a month ago)

Overall I am happy with my 7-pod aerogarden. I have made several successful plantings of the gourmet 7-herb kit. This last time I ordered individual seed pods in a custom seed kit and had problems. The mint I ordered sprouted dill. The cilantro I ordered sprouted Italian parsley. And the curly parsley I ordered sprouted very late and did not thrive. I had replaced the grow light bulbs and done a thorough cleaning before planting, so all I can do is chalk up the issues in this planting to seed quality control. (Posted over a month ago)

All year long, growing and cooking with AeroGarden's Herb Seed Kit is a "must" for every household. These 7 varieties of herbs will beautify anyone's home as well as make a dish complete! Italian Basil, Cilantro, Mint, Dill, Parsley, Chives and Purple Basil will take ones food and create a "gourmet meal". Cooking with herbs is a healthy substitute for those who would like to decrease the use of salt, fat and sugar from ones meals. Harvesting your herbs is simple. I have the 7 pod aero garden sitting in what otherwise would be a dead corner in the kitchen. It serves to liven up that dead space by providing brightness and color. It's also very handy for having fresh herbs right at my fingertips. I love the low maintenance factors, and the other aspects described above. It's easy to use and easy to clean. I'm concerned about how much electricity it might be using, but that's a side point. I'm not crazy about the life of the plants. I somehow managed to kill all but three of them in a within just a few months. Now, about a year later, there is only one plant left. I'm also not crazy about the flavor. They just don't taste the same as plants grown in dirt. I think it's because the hydroponic system just doesn't naturally have all the minerals and other organic compounds that soil has. Overall, I think the system is maybe a bit too costly for what it is, but now that I have it, I'm glad that I do and have purchased new seed pods to replace the ones I killed. In the St. Louis area we are able to grow fresh herbs outside all summer long, but in winter the AeroGarden takes over and provides ample fresh herbs for all our winter culinary delights. We've been using it for over five years, and weren't having good luck until Aerogrow customer service told us to use distilled water only, and we've had good results ever since. Generally reliable and easy to take care of, the basils do great. We also like using chives, but the pod never provides enough stalks (generally a half dozen or so - not nearly enough). We never did get the parsely to start this time (tried two different pods). (Posted over a month ago)

The variety this kit offers is unmatched. I've used them in almost every kind of dish I can think of, from breakfast to dessert. I've even brewed the mint in tea. The kit grows quickly and harvests weekly, at peak growth more often than that. I've had problems with the dill not yielding as it should, called customer service and received a replacement within a week that grew optimally. The only issue I have with this kit is that I can only grow it once per year as it yields so much I have tons of dried product at the end. I rotate this kit with any one of the others. This is definitely worth the regular price! (Posted over a month ago)

I am so impressed with this product. We've been harvesting mint, 2 types of basil and the parsley for months. The chives, cilantro and thyme did not grow. Overall I love the aero garden as it is easy to set up and easy to maintain. Being as I love fresh herbs it is great to be able to enjoy them year round. Having tried many different seed packages I would have to say the following. Basil grows incredibly well. Lucky as I use masses of it. Thyme and Mint tend to be very wirey in appearance. This last time both started to sprout but then shrivelled away. No idea why! Tomatoes - great plants but little fruit even though I followed the pollination ritual. I do love the areogarden idea though and shall continue to use it. It looks great, is easy to maintain and fresh herbs are a must in my kitchen. (Posted over a month ago)

I have had pretty good luck with most of the herbs in the various packets. This is a good variety with most of what I want in one place. You have to keep on top of pruning the quicker and bigger growing herbs, like basil and mint and parsley or your garden will be overrun by them and the smaller herbs, like chives, dill and thyme will be overshadowed by them. Also, if you don't keep on top of them (which inevitably happens to us, going away or getting too busy at some point later in the cycle) you can come home to dead plants too easily. Keep the water flowing and the light box high enough not to burn the taller plants. Lately I've been taking little snippets of this and that and putting them into my morning scrambled eggs. The flavors are light, a nice herbal taste that complements the eggs. It's so nice to be able to just walk on over the the Aerogarden and snip them and put them in, instead of walking into the back yard (in the summer) or having to buy bags of fresh herbs to keep in the fridge, washing them out, pulling pieces out, etc. It's a real delight and time saver that makes me use them more often. I've had a terrific time with my Aerogarden, even though my "crop" was a bit disappointing when it comes to germination and the robustness of the plants themselves. Basil and mint grew like crazy, but three replacements on chives yielded puny, unuseable plants. Oregano and thyme did sprout, but died off just as they became mature enough to start cutting. So I did get some very good tasting additions to my cooking, but more important was the fun we all had! Will definitely give it another shot and hope for more satisfactory results. My first Aerogarden came with this kit and it went great. After a disappointing experiment with green beans, I went back to this. I was TOTALLY bummed that neither basil sprouted. I called and they sent replacements[...] but by the time my basil plants started to sprout the other plants needed to be cut constantly to keep them the same level. So there was a lot of waste. And the basil never really did well anyway and that's the herb I use the most...I'll give it another shot but considering the price and the hassle I think I should have received an ENTIRE new kit. The rep told me the basils went out "without seeds" - and why I should suffer for bad manufacturing/quality control, I have not yet figured out. (Posted over a month ago)

My 7-year-old granddaughter and I set up the Aerogarden so easily, and enjoyed getting started with the Gourmet Herb kit. We had an abundance of wonderful, fresh-at-hand herbs for many months, a lot longer than anticipated! It's so lovely to teach children about nature, food, health, and gardening, all from the comfort of my kitchen! Because the yield was so abundant, we've even started to learn about processing, that is drying and preserving the herbs. What a plus for our budget! We love harvesting the herbs for use in sandwiches, salads, soups, pasta, vegetables, meat, seafood, even sorbets. Delightful uses for the mint, by the way, also include drinks, from teas to cocktails, salads and cold soups, roasted meats such as lamb, delicious recipes like Falafel, and so many more. I can't say enough about how wonderfully this product has enhanced our cooking, our eating, and our joyful connection to a more natural lifestyle! An unexpected and fun outcome has been discovering what a nice conversation piece the garden is when we entertain! The light is nice enough, too, to add a romantic softness to the room! We also find that the light enhances a good mood whenever we're around it. I've just cleaned out my Aerogarden after what seems like about a whole year of harvesting, and today I ordered my next batch of seeds. I am looking forward, gladly, to getting started on a new crop! I purchased the Aerogarden at Christmas. Within weeks I was harvesting herbs every night for dinner. They are great to add to salads or eating straight out of the garden. I can't believe the kick they add to store bought salsa. I can't say it's a bad thing, but the nightly harvest takes time! It's amazing how many herbs you get on a daily basis. I just tore down the herbs and the basil was the only thing worth transplanting. All the others seemed to have run thier course. I immediatly set up a tomato and pepper garden and can't wait to start that harvest. A great intro to AeroGarden. I disagree with several reviewers about the mint (it's great to have around for mojitos). I liked that there were two kinds of basil because most recipes that call for basil require quite a bit. Could have done without the dill though. It outgrows everything else in the garden in both size and quantity, and there's only so many recipes that call for a handful of dill (and if you don't use it regularly, you will be pruning this one by the handful). Aside from that, this was a great boon to my cooking because nothing beats the taste and aroma of straight-off-the-plant herbs. However, after months of herbs, I'm done with straight green for a bit. I think I'll try flowers next. (Posted over a month ago)

I haven't had trouble with germination or the water - and I'm using Oklahoma City water, too. Thanks for the tip about planting in pots for additional life. One of my favorite uses is to snip a variety of herbs, and toss them in a mini-chopper with some good olive oil. Makes a great topping for grilled meat and fish or baguette croutons. Cleaning's a breeze - my husband does it! It can get a bit messy when you harvest, though. (Posted over a month ago)

I enjoyed this herb kit but didn't use much of the thyme or mint. There wasn't anything wrong with them, I just didn't find enough recipes to use them in and I don't cook enough. The basil grows really fast. I could have made pesto just about every week once it reached mature growth stage. Once the herbs are at the mature stage they use water VERY fast. I had to add water every other day or every 2 days. It is important to check regularly because the aerogarden's low water timer ONLY goes off when the add nutrient timer goes off, and it doesn't seem to be based on water level. It is very important to keep the herbs at the same height. I let the basil get too tall and the other herbs didn't get enough light and as a result the chives, parsley and mint didn't do well. My first kit brought some disappointments: parsley took a month and a half to sprout and the Dill never sprouted. But the second kit all sprouted quickly and seems to be growing well. It performed well for my holiday company. The herbs were quite tasty, except the mint (peppermint does not grow well from seed as it is a hybrid). I use the basil and chives in salads and the thyme in cooking and salad dressing. I tend to snip off a bit of mint to chew on frequently. Better than gum. :-D Mint and thyme tangle with themselves, so are difficult to harvest. Still, I love the fresh herbs in my living room. They smell great and are quite beautiful. I transplanted the remainder of my first garden into pots and they continue to do well. (Posted over a month ago)

I ordered my first Aerogarden (the Classic) this past July, as a birthday present to myself. I have wanted one for years and finally indulged. I absolutely LOVE my garden, but I have been having some problems getting the seeds to grow. I have gone trough several kits now. The first time I used tap water. When I called customer service, they suggested that I switch the water. That did help. The basils grew well, however I could not get the thyme, mint or parsley to grow. Not one sprout. The dill grew some. I consider myself a good gardener, and I have success with all my houseplants, so I figure either I am doing something wrong or the seeds in those pods were old. HELP!! I could use some suggestions! I am determined to get a set to grow, though I am sure I probably have to replace the grow bulbs now (at $20.00 a box. Also one of the sockets in the hood seems loose Vibrations make the light go out and I constantly have to move the bulb back into place to get it to light back up). Anyway, I would highly recommed the Aerogarden, and many others seem to have success. I just hope I will too. By the way, customer service is absolutely great. They are always friendly and helpful-I think the best customer service I've found anywhere. I am going to order myself the Aergarden3 with the lavender kit because I am fond of lavender. I will use this one for flowers. I would like a few others for tomatoes and salad, but first I need to get the herbs to grow. If anyone out there has had similar problems and you resolved them, please let me know the secret to your success!! Thank you..... (Posted over a month ago)

The two basil varieties grow splendidly and once you learn how to pinch back well and often, they will continue to produce well and evenly. I always have fresh basil on hand and end up freezing it in batches as well or in pesto base, just to keep up with the amount on hand. The chives and dill and mint also grow beautifully, but I will say the thyme gets a bit messy as it tends to wrap around itself. I always have to clip and untangle very carefully for fear I'm going to destroy the whole plant. (Posted over a month ago)

My husband and I have had two gourmet seed kits, and loved them both. In the first, we were given Cilantro instead of Thyme, and the cilantro never sprouted, so we took a cutting of our incredibly healthy basil and planted it in the cilantro sponge. The second time we frankensteined together two seed kits and planted 2 dill, 2 thyme and 3 basil. Sadly, in this attempt, one of the dills never sprouted and the thyme is unmanageable and small. The other dill took a long time to get healthy, but is now doing fine. The purple basil is almost freakishly healthy, bushy and dominating the whole crop. We LOVE pesto made with our basil. My only complaint is that having only one plant means you don't tend to get enough ingredients for recipes after only one harvest (except for basil), which is why we mashed 2 kits together. I wish we'd planted 2 chives instead of 2 thymes. Overall, I'm just so happy to have my aerogrow and I LOVE the gourmet herb kit! (Posted over a month ago)

The (now outdoor) "control" plants, (those that survived), are smaller by 2/3, giving up maybe one leaf a week each - compared to a HANDFULL of basil from the Aerogarden! And the flavor! So FRESH! (If I was this fresh I'd get slapped!) The only down-side I can think of is that I don't cook enough! But this thing is INSPIRING! I want MORE of them! I hope they improve the cilantro seeds. I love fresh cilantro! It is fun to grow and enjoy the fruits of your labor. The only problem comes from leaving town or neglecting. Hopefully, my pet sitter will enjoy gardening. Anyway, I am hooked and ordered a 2nd garden to grow tomatoes with my basil. (Posted over a month ago)

I keep my garden in a bay window behind my kitchen sink; indirect outdoor lighting certainly doesn't hurt. My thyme and purple basil did not germinate after two weeks; when I cleaned out the pods, I saw they had molded. So I bought seeds for marjoram and cilantro, and replaced (respective to location) the thyme and purple basil. The cilantro quickly caught up with the original plants; the marjoram came along more slowly. I did learn, in any case, the after cleaning out and sanitizing the foam in a planting pod, the pod may be reused with my own seeds. The dill is growing like a house afire; I have to use some almost evry day. (It's great, BTW, in a saute of garlic, thinly sliced onions, red and green peppers, laced at the last with a little white wine.) The basil has been a disappointment; only two stems, very slow growing, even though I trim the large leaves as directed. The mint is flourishing, but I have little use for it; I agree with other reviewers that oregano would be better. The parsley and chives are also slow-growing and at 9 weeks, it seems the chives have stopped altogether. I never got much use from them. The flavour of all the herbs is great, and most combine well in, say a tomato-herb soup, coming through nicely. (Posted over a month ago)

This herb kit is great! The varieties of Basil are wonderful, especially paired with garlic in a pesto (over chicken or fish). We don't like chives, otherwise it would be a 5 star! (Posted over a month ago)

I ordered the black aergarden and love it. It is a famtastic machine. I have tried to grow things with no success, but with the aerogarden I am a complete success with wonderful healthy herbs. I am on a diet and the herbs are wonderful seasonings that helps me to stay on track. Customer service is wonderful. I called because the parsley did not grow. A representative instructed me on what to do to verify if there were seeds in the pod, and how to obtain a replacement. I received the replacement without any problem, and the parsley is growing wonderfully. I plan to order the green beans and baby greens next. Thanks for the enrichment you added to my life. I got my first AeroGarden about 2 years ago and now have 3. This is by far the seed kit I've purchased the most. Like another reviewer, I was at first disappointed to discover the cilantro had been replaced with thyme. Well, it turns out I'm using the thyme more than I ever used the cilantro. (Though, I never had a problem with germination when it was included. I'll be growing cilantro with the Master Gardener kit instead.) There are are couple of herbs I rarely use - the mint and the purple basil. I've heard the purple basil can be used to make a wonderful pesto, but the color is off-putting, and there isn't enough in the AeroGarden to make into pesto. The mint I occasionally use as a garnish, only because it's there. It grows like a weed, so I trim back the number of plants as soon as soon as it sprouts. I'd prefer they replace the mint and purple basil with more versatile herbs. Other than that, it's great having herbs growing right in my kitchen at all times. I cook all the time, and fresh herbs make such a difference. They're so expensive to buy at the store, though, and they don't last long once they've been harvested. (Posted over a month ago)

I mixed up the seed kits and am only using a few from the Gourmet Herb ... Dill, Mint and Chive. They sprouted quickly, and I am enjoying watching the daily growth. The chives come up in a single "hairline" sprout, which I assume will turn into a little "bunch." I love my Aerogarden! This is my second planting. I planted Johnnie Jump Ups the first time, and they were so cute! (Unfortunately, they didn't adapt to soil when I tried to transplant them.) I just purchased a second Aerogarden, and am planning the next garden. I purchased some dwarf carnation seeds and some pink gazania seeds, which I will use with my master garden kit. I love cooking with fresh herbs, during the summer I grow my own herbs outdoors, but this is perfect for the winter. I was disappointed they replaced the cilantro as I am a HUGE cilantro fan. I also depend a lot on fresh oregano. I was able to be inventive however so I could get the mix of herbs I wanted without wasting a seed pod. I replaced the mint seeds with oregano seeds and the purple basil with cilantro. I just brushed out their seeds and glued mine in place. It worked very well. Everything grew wonderfully. I'm not certain why aerogrow has had problems with the cilantro germination. I wonder if they had a bad bunch of seeds? In any case, I highly recommend this kit. (Posted over a month ago)

overall pleased with the with everything except the parsley. I received a replacement pod of oregano that has been slow to catch up due to the other plants height. I attempted to cut them back to lower the light, but would have lost most of the bud points of my basil. (Posted over a month ago)

I purchased my first Aerogarden in May and this was the kit that was included. The two varieties of basil and the thyme were the first to sprout - in just a few days. Now two months later, the basil is growing out of control! I have to cut the plants back a few times a week to keep the leaves from growing into the lights and burning. The flavor is wonderful. I use the basil in all my pasta dishes and I've already made a batch of pesto. The parsley and chives are a little bit of a disappointment. The parsley took a long time to germinate (about 3 weeks) and is still small. The chives haven't grown much after the initial clump. I'm very pleased though with the thyme, dill and mint...and of course the profusion of basil that I almost can't use fast enough. I'm looking forward to trying the other seed kits. My aerogarden was may favorite Christmas gift. I had great-tasting herbs within weeks, and for as long as 6 months. I dismantled my garden for the summer, and I am missing it! My basil outside was eaten by bugs, and my parsley and cilantro plants are not as full as I would like (and need!) after 6-8 weeks of great weather--and I started them from plants, not seeds. Of the herbs provided, I liked the red basil the least and the green basil, parsley, and cilantro the best. I found I had more herbs than I could use, as I pruned frequently. I looked for recipes that used herbs! The only drawback was keeping the aerogarden watered. I found I had to add water EVERY day, once the plants were mature. When we went away it was difficult to manage the maintenance, both the watering and the pruning. (Posted over a month ago)

The fresh basil perks up my Italian dishes, and the fresh dill is delicious on poached salmon with dill sauce. The parsley is a festive garnish on my vegetables and deviled eggs. Best of all, I know I don't have to worry about product contamination (such as salmonella)because I know where and how it was grown. (Posted over a month ago)

I have had great success with this package before. This one seems to be taking a longer time to grow. It's been more than 3 weeks and the plants are only about 2 inches tall. The Parsley has barely sprouted. I've grown about 6 packages of different herbs and I am quite sure that I have done everything correctly and the unit seems to be functioning properly. I think this is just an aberration. (Posted over a month ago)

I use all the herbs for everything. Very easy to grow and maintain. However, I would like to see the curly leaved parsley replaced with the flat leaf Italian parsley. The flat leaf has more flavor. Also, I would prefer to have just the Green leaf Basil. Perhaps, some other herb such as type thyme or oregano could be added in its place. Have you considered a pick your own herb seed set? I love to cook and this is a great starter kit! Be ready for tons of basil and dill -- even all my Italian cooking and famous dill dip couldn't come close to using enough of the herbs. I wish I had been a little better about pruning the plants even if I didn't need any right at that moment - - mine repeatedly hit the lights and burned because of my carelessness. The only thing I can say is, I wish there was oregano in this mix ... I would've given up mint or thyme for oregano. Overall it's a very good mix though. (Posted over a month ago)

I AM A COOK WITH A PASHION. I DIDNT LIKE HAVING TO GO TO THE STORE AND BUY FREASH HERBS AND THEN NOT USING THEM ALL. WITH HAVING MY AERO GARDEN WHEN I NEED MY FREASH HERBS ALL I HAVE TO DO IS JUST CUT WHAT I NEED AND NO MORE THAN THAT. I DO FIND THAT THE ITALIAN BAISL AND PURPLE BASIL GROW VERY FAST AND I HAVE TO CUT IT DOWN 3 TO 4 TIMES A WEEK. ALL MY FRIENDS LOVE WHEN I COME OVER TO THERE HOUSE AND BRING THEM A BAG OF FREASH HERBS TO THEM. THAY ARE ALWAYS LOST FOR WORDS.I ALSO HAVE LEARNED TO DRY MY HERBS AND SAVE THEM FOR SOME OF MY RESIPIES THAT CALL FOR DRIED HERBS. THANK YOU AERO GARDEN FOR MAKING A PROUDECT THAT IS SO WONDERFUL AND MY FAMILY LOVES IT. I HAVE A 8 YEAR OLD SON AND HE HAD A SCIENCE PROJECT TO DO AND HE ASKED ME IF WE COULD MAKE AN AERO GARDEN FOR IT. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT HIS TEACHER WAS INPRESSED AND HE GOT AN A+.
